Can music help with Alzheimer’s?

Skin Deep ~ Mandy Moran

For anyone that has experienced the effects of in my opinion, the cruelest of disease’s Alzheimer’s, then you’ll totally understand when I say that if only one person reads this blog and takes comfort then I’ve achieved my goal…

                   My mum.

I grew up in a loving wonderful family with siblings older than me so therefore I guess you could say I was somewhat spoilt!
We were a typical average working class family in the 70s, life was good.
My siblings went on to be hugely successful mainly down to the support of my parents in their formative years.

However this story isn’t about my siblings or me for that matter, its about my mother and father and how the dreadful diesese Alzheimer’s has infected our family.

      Emotional fallout!

The mixture of emotions felt are indescribable, the person you know and love is still there before…

To my son…

image

Your arrival wasn’t without drama,
You made your presence known,
But from that day I knew my purpose was complete,
As a baby you were demanding,
Screaming, clingy bundle.

Soon you were a toddler,
Footballs were already present,
Cute, determined, charming everyone you met,
Teletubbies La La, Fireman Sam,
Knights of any description and not forgetting the awesome Power Rangers,
Always still with a ball at your feet…..

You gave so much joy,
Happy memories of laughter and fun,
Friends came easily with your social attitude,
A brother you became to Libby and your love for her was clear,
Those primary years of football and sport lay foundations for future life.

A young man you have turned into,
Making us all so incredibly proud,
So I just want to wish you success,
In the next chapter of your life and many more years of happiness…..

We all love you.

Happy 18th birthday to you liam. Xxx

Making the most of it!!

Life’s rich tapestry is there for us all, ups downs, lows and highs.
I have a very wise friend who once told me we are all in the sh#t its just different levels, sometimes just your toes are in, another time your right up to your neck in it…..
Always makes me smile this analogy but so incredibly true.

For me though its about making the most of our time here, maybe this ideology does only come about with age and experience but trying to find a positive in all adversity’s and appreciation of the wonderful moments is the key to happiness and contentment.

Having a go!

Sometimes we miss out because we are afraid of looking silly or just plain failure but really making the most of whatever is the best principle…

I love my cover picture and this is an excellent example of someone thinking out of the box making the most of it, not having a garden but still reading, enjoying the sun on a balcony, genius….

Don’t put obstacles in the way, don’t miss out just because…….

So go everyday enjoy what life has to offer, taste, smell, see, enjoy, laugh, smile and even cry because we are creatures of emotion and feeling is what we desire, its what gives us the passion and it creates those all so important memories…..

Go live, go make the most if it….

Keeping strong!

Life throws many obstacles,
How to deal the pack can get troublesome,
Shuffling through the cards of life….

We all build bridges over troubled waters,
Turbulent troubles turning over our minds,
Rapids taking us off course of journey…

So walk those paths build with courage and substance,
Fortitude of soul and mind,
Overcoming struggles of vexatious times……

For all the discord and pain,
Can only lead to growth of intellect,
Wisdom working its worth,
Turning those troubles and strife into new understanding……

Everyday I encounter negative vibes we all do and sometimes it can actually be down to us, for contributing to them, but understanding the negative is all part of combating and controlling it…

I’m extremely grateful and excited too of reaching over a 1000 views on my newy almost 6 week old blog, maybe not a huge milestone for some but for me encouraging and giving me the motivation to keep going not to mention I’m absolutely loving it…
Also other exciting developments, I’ll keep you posted…..
So cast your mind back to my first post, only a short introduction but its base lying in everything fundamental that my blog is about, from back in early December 2014 titled ~

What we don’t realise! ~

Ways to be more tolerant!

Skin Deep ~ Mandy Moran

If only life was full of sweetness and light and we were tolerant to everything we encountered….
Unfortunately life isn’t always that way and tolerance is a difficult thing to possess

image

           Define Tolerance!

Let’s first think about what tolerance is and its meaning, we want people to treat us with respect, understanding and acceptance, in return we should reciprocate these virtues meaning a tolerance of the diversity of others and our societies!
Acceptance is similar to tolerance but different ~ you can tolerant something or someone without accepting them however you can’t accept without tolerating first…..

Understanding of something or someone helps with tolerance and then hopefully eventually acceptance.

If we were to try to envisage tolerance it would I think be blue, silver, even translucent, a calm gentle being. Something of great importance to each of us and the world.

I miss her so much…

image

This picture is from several years ago now at a family wedding, but it epitomise everything wonderful about my beautiful mum, that laughter….

No one unless they are or have experienced the devastating effects of seeing someone you love lost to Alzheimer’s can possibly understand the pain, anguish, anger and utter sorrow.

Letting go when before you they are but not recognising the person they have become.

I long to share my life experiences, small things, milestones in my children’s life’s.
I know many people lose their mother’s and must long for the very same thing to have those conversations again but the truth of the matter is she’s here in body but she’s no longer my mother in mind….

I miss her so much………

Trusting truth…..

image

Upon your trust I sit in kind,
Balancing my life of chaos,
Only one jerk and I could fall,
Down into the gloomy abyss.

Could trust hold my heart,

Could trust understand my mind,

Don’t drop me………

Trust is blue clear and exactness,
Certainty if believed,
Shall I jump from this ledge,
Leaving behind my safety net.

I trust you with my life,

I trust you with my soul

I trust you will not drop me……

With trust like diamond casing,
Now securing any cracks,
Sealed sheltering emotions,
Basking in splendour of protection.

Trust has come to settle,

Confidence of hope and faith,

In that peace will fall upon…..

Life - Happiness & Joy

My Mother instilled this old saying in my brain all through my childhood:  “If you can’t say nothin nice, don’t say nothin at all.”

As an adult when I’m in a situation with others and I start to say the wrong thing, I think of Mom and this old saying.  Then, I shut my mouth and I don’t say a thing.

There have been many silly, unkind, irritating people who have aggravated me in my life. When this type person talks to me and seems to be a moron, I shut my mouth. Then I tell myself to consider the source and let all their ignorant actions and words roll off my back. I keep my mouth shut.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I can stand up for myself.  I have strong opinions and a very big mouth.  But, if the issue is stupid, leads to nothing, and harms no…
