The hunger games trilogy!

I read the wonderful trilogy about four years ago now, I literally stayed up till the small hours, downloading the next book to my kindle in earnest.
Yes I was totally hooked, the strength of fearless katniss Everdeen had me reading around the clock…..

• Hunger games
• Catching Fire
• Mockingjay

The author ‘Suzanne Collins’ took some of her inspiration from Greek mythology and Roman gladiator games but not all classical, contemporary TV reality shows also played a part in her influence.

My interpretation….

I found the story captivating, it was deeply thought provoking and emotionally strong.
Right from the start with katniss volunteering to take Primrose’s place in the games.

For me there were hidden messages of political issues relating to the world today, taken to extreme but the Capitol could be seen as the western world and the other districts working to keep the west fulfilled.

The on going love story of and even triangle of katniss, Peeta and Gail. All intriguing and keeps you guessing and wanting more.

President coriolanus Snow his ruthless greed, lies and ability to have people killed for his other gain. As in the killing of cinna…..

The revolution in the third novel Mockingjay is truly intriguing and deeply emotional.
Katniss leads the rebellion with her Courage and determination and the symbol of the revolt the Mockingjay brooch……

The trilogy has been made
into four films the first released in 2012, the Mockinghay having been made for two films and the last part of novel 3 is due out in November 2015.

If you haven’t read the trilogy or watched the screenplays then don’t hesitate because you’ll believe me absolutely love them.

Anyway looking forward to catching the last film in November and in the mean time watching the others again….

Have you read the books or watched the films?
What is your opinion on them?

Fifty shades of love…..

Shades of Grey…..

I had a fantastic girly night with some wonderful friends last night, it was an anticipation of sorts, giggles, laughter and fun.

Off to the cinema for the infamous “Fifty Shades of Grey”
I haven’t actually read the novels, probably only one of millions because it has been a world wide best seller so the only inkling of the plot that I had was the obvious ~ sex scenes were going to be frequently shown….

Shades of pizza.

Pizza first and a catch up was just the ticket and I did then enquire to a friend before hand about the story line really to get a bit of an idea and to my delight there was a deep baseline of psychology with the character Christian Grey….

There were I can’t deny a tremendous amount of women in the cinema, to be expected, the odd guy though and then a minority of the women who were incredibly irritating even by my standards….

Shades of understanding….

If I were a film critic and one who hadn’t previously read the novels I would review the film in a good light.

However there will be cynical, fickle remarks around the film that’s inevitable as controversies due to feminism….

Yes there is the story line of almost in fashion right now of dominant and submissive, but let’s look deeper into Christian Greys feelings.

Shades of fear….

Anastasia Steele is a romantic English literature student who falls in love with Christian, love being the operative word, his troubled past has scarred him into being unable to love…
There is the pleasure, the sex and bondage but for me the real message just from this first movie is love.

I’m hoping the other two novels uncover and add more of an insight into the dominant role which in my opinion he is fundamentally just hiding behind….

This isn’t for me a film, novel or story of misogyny but more a love story unfolding in our modern world…

I hope I won’t be disappointed with the next chapters, if you haven’t yet been go and see the film its worth it…..

The strength of man!

Don’t hide your face in shame,

Be strong show faith go forth,

Some will fall that is the form,

But the strong will prevail….

Strength has many faces to show,

Humanity, tenderheartedness without shame,

Following grace, involving rapture,

Strength holds the fall that is the form…..

It has conviction for others too,

Never selfish cruel or pretentious,

Humbled man in all his glory,

Will strength, can it hold the fall…..

Mankind evolves without still,

Forward he does march with gain,

Remember I ask to hold the fall,

For without the strong we could fail…..

The colour of peace……

Photograph by ” Traudl Becker”

Dare I ask for peace in this turbulent world of silent wars
The colour of war is dark and dissolute
Anger, abounded with fear
Yet still I hope for a glint of light.

Peace what is its colour
In this sea of red and rage…
We are abundant with hate
Power people embrace in their foolhardiness

Could it be translucent or sublime
Maybe more a cool blue breeze
Or perhaps full meadow green and yellow
Yes I will dare ask for peace….

Let’s cast a dream of hope
Crimson washed to sea
Darkness erased by an energy of illuminate
Onwards we will wander seeking for our own true colour…..

Its only weird…..

Photograph “Arlo Guthrie”

I hear you ask for weird….
When all around is calm and still
There is no ripple in the waters light
Just the moon and its luminous reflection

How can I interpret weird….
Is not for lack of imagination
When suddenly the water erupted its sleep
With a crash of a hat and limb

The water felt hot like treacle
Pulling through its gulp
Bittersweet with its welcome hold
Lumps, glue, sticky and yet free

Time is but an essence
Each day bringing the weird and wonderful too
Give the weird a chance
For all things need a balance….

Capture the opposite, encounter the within
The moon has a light but dark prevails
Water will flow until its sealed
As we feel the weird from deep held in…….

If I were Queen of the world!

The world is a beautiful, wondrous place one that if you were unborn and had the ability to think it would be unbelievable paradise to you.

Do we really appreciate its capabilities, its marvel , its staggering possibilities. I doubt it we are too busy making war…..
Our children of the world see its wonder its attraction, they are not marred by power, greed and egotism.

If I were lucky enough to be Queen of the world, I’d be someone who valued its people along with its staggering natural beauty.
I’d teach forgiveness above most things, enabling man to tolerate and see itself for all its worth rather than letting man think it needs something other than what the true world already has to offer in its amazing state….

Everywhere in our 21st century world we see destruction, man struggling for power, struggling to over turn his fellow man.
Where has the compassion disappeared to, what of our conscious. We see innocent people suffer, children refugees of war. Is there no end to the slaughter……

If I were Queen of the world even for just one day, I’d show my wrath, I’d wash away the evil with pure nature itself.
I’d save the innocent from their peril put balance back into mankind and hope above all else that we could be forgiven for our madness…….

What is the true meaning of the “Lord of the rings”

Having watched on two consecutive evenings two of the “The lords of the rings” written by “J R R Tolkien” trilogy with my son I hasten to add, I got to thinking and we discussed what is the true meaning of the The lord of the rings”

This incredibly popular story and since recently movies are on further investigation often under scrutiny of their true meaning.

J R R Tolkien first published the story in three novels over a course of a year from July 1954 to October 1955
Taking into account he began his work on this fantasy Masterpiece in 1917 and really carried on working on it through the two world wars.
The three books are :
” The Fellowship of the Ring”
” The Two Towers”
” The Return of the King”

The meaning behind the story has been under extensive analysis from many, its been stated it has origins in mythology and was influenced because of his dislike of industrialisation.

The main outline of the story being centred around one ring and that ring being the downfall of all and for man, elf or dwarf to be influenced by its darkness as intended by the dark lord Sauron who forged it.

My take on this amazing fantasy

Well I see many meanings,  many relationships and powerful messages.

1. I am intrigued by the wonder of the relationships of the hobbits, Frodo, Sam, Merry and pippin. Friendships that dispite many knocks stay strong and loyal and are wonderful to follow.

2. Good over evil with Frodo and Sam throwing the ring into Mount Doom. In the third and final book “The Return of the the King”

3. The importance of home with the hobbits talking about the shires and longing to be back there throughout the whole story.

4. To never under estimate anyone, with the hobbits showing determination despite everything being against them to succeed.

5. The magic of the wizard Gandalf and heroic efforts always helping the good. Its been noted from some that actually he symbolises Angels.

6. The diversity of the Elves, Dwarves and man and their cultures being so different. Despite this their alliance is formed and helps the fight against darkness.

7. The disturbing twisted personality of Gollum who’s obsession with the ring and calling it Precious is a constant battle of his two selves throughout the books.

8. Everyone falls in love with Aragon and he has a life long love affair with Arwen throughout the story.

9. The brutality of the Orcs and the drudgery of their existence almost being a similarity to industrialisation.

Hidden messages.

All dramatic films leave an impression in our minds as do events of high drama in our very existence.
Take from this fantasy what you will but those hidden messages are there just as they are in our life’s.
So use your inner depth whenever possible and remember thoughts and feelings are what make us.

Peace fell upon middle earth and all was well, try and reach peace within yourself and see your life transform.

What is your opinion on “The lord of the Rings” ?
