Love is indestructible!

This life we live is precious,
This life we live is pure,
Could it be just an illusion,
Or am I dreaming from a nightmare!

Take nothing for granted,
Tomorrow is of no significance,
The moment is all we have,
Yesterday but just a memory….

Memories I often remember,
A smell, sound, sight evoking a thought gone by,
Let my mind wonder,
Holding on to the past for far too long,
For now she’s leaving me,
Her memories all but destroyed…..

So instead of tears, pain and misery,
Take this moment of now,
For time is just an illusion,
What is this time but now…….

Love I hold in my heart,
She gave me this and it will hold forever,
This feeling, this grief of missing is just an illusion,
For the strength of her love will never fade,
It’s memory is indestructible,
Our love eternally stored inside me, Gratitude of having been so lucky to have her as my mother……

Real strength comes from hardship!

Photograph ‘Vicaz’ Flickr

Looking at this picture I honestly don’t think any of us can imagine true hardship of this magnitude.
We all complain from time to time but we are incredibly fortunate in comparison!

I believe a bit of hardship is actually good for you through, it gives you a hunger to better yourself and a need and drive for success.
Here are a few quotes to inspire you and give you food for thought……….

1.“The most beautiful people I’ve known are those who have known trials, have known struggles, have known loss, and have found their way out of the depths” ― Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

2.“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.” – Randy Pausch

3.“Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful.” – Zig Ziglar

Spoiling our children!

We all do it from time to time its natural for a parent to strive to ensure their offspring are comfortable, happy and to give them a better start in life than they had themselves.
Are we doing the right thing though are we ensuring they have the right tools to succeed or just simply spoiling them literally?

In today’s modern society its all to easy to take our lifestyles for granted but some people do suffer a harder deal than others.
Educating our children that we have to work hard to provide money to achieve nice things and experience travel etc isn’t a bad thing rather than just handing them everything on a plate….

These are just a few examples of those coming from humble beginnings to achieve greatness, ‘ Harry Houdini, Charlie Chaplin, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Jay-z …….

Well let’s all be grateful for whatever we may have, remembering real wealth is always priceless
However if you do truly want success follow your dreams and expect pit falls because that’s what makes for success experiencing the lows before the highs…..

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Five reasons to be thankful!

Photograph by “Gary Neave” Flickr

Today was beautiful, sunny almost Spring like, the days are getting longer, the long awaited warmer days are soon to arrive.
I have my favourite flowers out in the garden “snowdrops” always a sure sign Springs only around the corner….

There are possibly a few random people who love the Winter but I can honestly say I long for March and the changing of the clocks here in the UK, meaning lighter nights and mornings…
Its a true fact that people do suffer with SAD ~

Seasonal affective (or mood) disorder (SAD) is a type of depression with a seasonal pattern, occurring at the same time each year, most commonly in winter.

Link below explains in more detail >>>>

So really its understandable why Winter isn’t many peoples choice of seasons.

We do through despite many struggles or problems in our life’s still have many reasons to be thankful…
Here is a link to my previous blog on being thankful from January, well worth a read >>>>>>>>

Today’s post though is about things we perhaps take for granted and don’t really appreciate.
We are so in ore of today’s technology I sometimes think we forget all the wonderful things discovered many years before that we now take as the norm…..

Think back only 150 years and the people of England were contracting and even dying from diseases related to unclean water. We turn on the tap in the western world and clean drinkable water appears.
So to start my five thankful things I nominate

1. Clean drinking water on tap.

2. Having a warm comfortable home.

Photograph by “Jon Cooper” Flickr
Again 100 years ago poor people lived in slums filled with disease and misery, we today need to be thankful….

3. Electricity enabling for an easier life…

Photograph by “Dondu Small

We forget until a power cut occurs how reliant on electricity we really are….

4. Our prized jewel, the car.

Photograph by ” Peter Ellis2″ Flickr.

Again think how slow life would be paced if we still used horse and carts.

5. Last but no means least, the love of your children and close family and friends. Totally priceless and most definitely priceless.

Be thankful.

From now on think and try and be thankful…..

How compassion can change your life…

Photograph by “Becky Rhodes Stiller” flickr

Today’s world is full of hatred, anger, evil barbaric acts, greed, power fuelled egotistical mankind and really I worry for where it will all end…..

We have a responsible to our children, grandchildren and future generations of this wonderful planet to ensure its safety and that of the human race…..

This is a little rant from me but seriously if I could change this horrible world of today I surely would.
I’d spread kindness, peace, compassion and forgiveness.
With all of these virtues there would be born happiness and love and harmony would spread with it bringing balance back to the world…..

Random acts of kindness….

All probably a little far fetched with my imagination running away with me again.
We can however change our immediate life’s for the better,
~ Random acts of kindness,
~Showing compassion to our loved ones and people we come into contact with,
~Altogether showing love not hatred and remembering to keep our egos under control.

So I’ve compiled a list of my favorite ways of bringing more compassion to your world.

Photograph by ” Charles Hamilton” Flicker

1. Helping someone less fortunate.

They are a growing number of homeless people here in the UK and across the world. Poverty in families is on the increase whilst the richest people become richer….
Greed on the agenda but forget that and concentrate on your actions, have compassion in your heart, show those around you that you do care and by helping someone less fortunate than yourself it will empower you in ways you never thought possible.
A random act of kindness.

2. Tell someone how lovely they are and how grateful you are for their friendship.

We forget to give praise and to have gratitude for what we have. Our life’s can become richer in friendships if we allow people our time and kindness of heart and with this it will return in kind.

3. Smile at a stranger.

I do this often, it opens your heart to maybe that old man or woman that lives alone, hasn’t seen or spoken to anyone in a while. Warm someone’s soul with your act of kindness.

4.Refrain from judgement.

We do all judge at sometime in our life’s, even regularly in some cases.
I actually think we just get into a rut and habit of judging others.
Remember none of us know where our life’s are taking us, so before you judge someone else for their actions, think about your own life first and imagine the hurt if someone did exactly that to you.
Having compassion to others instead would benefit everyone.

Small sample.

These are only a few of the many ways you can practice compassion and all the other great virtues that can change your life and attract these emotions back into your own living.

My mother had many wise sayings and stories, now she has the cruel disease Alzheimer’s, I try regularly to remember what she has taught me and one of the great morals she instilled in me and my siblings is just this ~
The strong should help the weak with kindness and compassion and without judgement”

Let’s try and send our message to others ,we are lucky we have realised what life’s true message is but so many have not.
Spread this tune of wonder and let’s hope for a better future…….

Is your ego in control?

The biggest challenge after success is shutting up about it.

Criss Jami

I’m the first to admit that my ego isn’t always under control, I do find myself having to check my thoughts and think differently.
Do we really understand the power the ego has over us or how destructive it can be, love is its enemy and it will do what it can to win…

Who can think of a time when they just had to be right in an argument, or someone who is defensive, ungrateful, selfish the list goes on. I’m sure you get the idea, the ego really isn’t your friend.

The ego can be inferior as well as arrogant.

From my description you could be mistaken in thinking that the ego is only arrogant, thinking itself special and better than everyone else, judgemental full of self importance, it does have this face most definitely but also a self pity face too.
We can often feel inferior to others comparing ourselves, again taking away our happiness, this is the ego playing its games once more……

                Love vs ego….

Think of relationships, do you push love away being fearful of it, this is the ego, do you expect someone to make you happy, expectations of what a relationship can give you rather than how you can just simply share love, again the ego. Is it all about me rather than us and then needy comes to mind, once again the ego…..

“The price of love is your ego”

Lets not allow our egos to imprison us….

Examples of the ego at work!

1. Being unable to be pleased for other peoples success.

2. Revelling in other peoples misfortunes, gossiping!

3. The judgemental behaviour of people different, socially, physically etc to ourselves.

4. Always feeling the need to be right, argumentative and stubborn, you can be right but does it really make you happier!!

5. Comparing ourselves to others thinking, wishing we were different instead of being positive. Jealously then making an entrance.

6. Lacking in gratitude and appreciation, being expectant of others to make us happy.

7. Putting the blame on others, when we know we have made a mistake etc, cowardice….

8. The lack of ability to forgive, holding a grudge and then leading to bitterness…….

” More the knowledge lesser the ego, lesser the knowledge more the ego.

Albert Einstein

                Our thoughts……
Try to control the ego, change and check your thoughts and see a difference for the better in your life.

Love is all we need, really……..

We all need friendship!

A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words…….

Photography ~ Raj koppula.

Friendship is priceless…..

We all have friends, some are merely acquaintance’s, some are casual contacts but there are a handful maybe less, that are truly special friends.

Childhood friendships…

We all remember our childhood playground experiences of friends, back then it was based on games played together, toys shared, even sometimes just down to the geographic reason of being neighbours.
Either way childhood friends if kept into adulthood are extremely special.
The experience of literally growing up together, memories of wonderful fun times is incredibly powerful, an almost identity between you both is present, truly priceless….

Work friends!

I myself have made some amazing friends through my work, one in particular has been present in my life and remains a constant support to the present time. I have been blessed…
However this isn’t true of all work colleagues sometimes the competition of getting ahead can raise that green eyed monster I have discussed before.
Friendships have to be based on mutual respect for their success.

Definition of friendship!

1. Friends have mutal respect, except each other for being exactly who they are without any judgement.
2. Similar moral and social beliefs and interests.
3. Have experienced ups and downs and have always shown forgiveness and compassion.
4. Understanding of each others good and bad traits.
5. Standing by each other in times of troubles with a listening ear and showing sympathy….
6. Maybe the hardiest being genuinely happy and excited for each others successes.

The list goes on…..

The Dunbar theory!

Robin Dunbar a British anthropologist and evolutionary psychologist and a specialist in primate behaviour, came up with a number of “150” people the number we can interact with to read more on this subject just follow the link below….

Social Media friendships.

With today’s technology we now have hundreds of friends, Facebook, twitter, google +, even has circles for your different kind of friends, best, family, acquaintance, work etc, its endless.
Some people say this new form of social interaction isn’t healthy for us, maybe the amount, the numbers are dangerous or risky but from my experience social media enables us to make truly good friends too.

Have a read of my blog titled ~ Is social media damaging our health…

My reflection…….

Friendship is good for the soul, openness, sharing experiences, helping with self esteem, all things positive.
I look forward to meeting up with my special friends, I cherish them, I’m grateful for their frankness, honesty, kindness and laughter.

I’m off to met up with one of my good friends today, why don’t you do the same, ring them, message, text, email, communication is now endless,  keep making memories….

Can you remember your best childhood friendship?

Let’s be Thankful!

Well that’s it Christmas tree and decorations away, cleaned the house throughout, great feeling but then I am slightly OCD inclined!!
I always love getting a fresh vase of flowers on the table, looking forward to the spring, the nights are gradually drawing out,
We should be truly thankful…….

         Gratitude is the finest virtue….

Being thankful isn’t always an easy feeling to achieve though, we do tend to navigate towards negative thoughts and all of us sometimes think we have been dealt a hard time, but really there is always a reason to be thankful…….

Studies have proven that thankful thoughts can help improve our immune system and blood flow to the heart even, quite remarkable I’d say!

Keeping a diary of gratitude and writing in it every day or the wonderful idea of having a jar and writing on a piece of paper whenever you feel thankful throughout the year, putting the papers in the jar and at the end of the year reading them all……
Wonderful ideas to help with thankfulness that can benefit our enthusiasm, energy and even aid sleep. People who are thankful are less stressed and are less likely to suffer with depression.

When you are grateful fear disappears and abundance appears.
Tony Robbins

Ways to help with keeping those important thoughts of Thankfulness!

1. I have already mentioned a thankful or gratitude diary, well worth a try because again as I’ve touched on in the past its always available for reference once its written, at a later date.

2. Living for the moment, here and now and not holding onto the past and any negative thoughts or looking into the future either. The power of the moment is all we really have. Embrace it…..

3. Not comparing ourselves to others, this has no positive attributes what so ever, it only forms feelings of resentment and bitterness, which in turn will hinder your spiritual being.

4. Being realistic in your thoughts and realising there can never be sunshine without rain. The pain and hardship in our life’s only acts to teach us how grateful we should be, what we do have.

5. Hope because for me this is the key to thankfulness, without feelings of hope we can never be grateful for what we actually have……

6. Changing our mindset, the thoughts over feelings that I’m always banging on about. Look for the good not the bad in everyone, hard at times I know but really you are the only person responsible for your thoughts and they determine how you feel. So make them good thoughts and be thankful.

Anyway I must be off now lots to do and to be thankful for in the process.

Life’s a wonderful gift let’s be grateful and have no regrets because tomorrow is never a promise…..

Thanks for reading my blog!
