How self reflection can help all of us in 2017!

Well its coming up to that time of the year again, resolutions at the ready everyone….

I absolutely love New Year resolutions, however they are only worth while if we can try to keep to them for at least longer than a few days!!!

My son has a saying for the January gym goers, probably better I didn’t repeat it!!!

It doesn’t have to be exercise, it can be anything that helps shape you and your future.
Self reflection is a fantastic tool to help with a number of things, its perhaps something we do too little, probably because we are afraid of facing things…….

Let’s first just think about “Reflection” it can be produced from light, sound and water waves.
Its a wondrush, astonishing, fascinating form of Physics.

Nature itself produces beautiful examples, the light and water droplet reflect the flowers with extradinary results.
Other magnificent reflections with a wave reflector the mirror, and water waves, each one leaving us in utter disbelief of their beauty…….

“Did you ever wonder if the person in the puddle was real, and you’re just a reflection of him”
Bill Watterson

“Reflect upon your present blessings — of which every man has many — not on your last misfortunes, of which all men have some”
Charles Dickens

     Self reflection has positive results!

Self reflection has to be done with ~

1. Knowing what you are reflecting on :-
i.e ~ to change a habit or lifestyle
~ to help change a relationship.

2. Being honest to yourself why you want to change…….

3. Find somewhere quiet, be alone and maybe put on some calming music to help you relax and think more clearly.

4. Write down your thoughts, read them however painful. Clearing the mind by written word, I find incredibly powerful. We are all different though remember, but give it a try!

5. Now you have reflected on what you want to change and honestly….

6. Its time to write down aims, with a time scale for each.
That way you can refer to them and don’t get too hung up if you are a little behind time. As long as you don’t lie to yourself……

       Reflection produces amazement!

The kind of transformation that self reflection can produce is worth a try, I’d say.
Our thoughts and feelings playing their roles again, thoughts positive, results feeling amazing……
Always remember each and everyone of us is special!

So now with all these tools let’s go and think about what resolutions we want to try this New Year.

Let’s make 2017 a year to remember…

What are your New Year resolutions?

How eating healthy and regular exercise can change your life!!

Just 15 months ago I decided to join the gym and really my reasons were mixed but never ever did I expect the amazing outcome that has now become a reality and a lifestyle, which has changed my life forever for the better….

Starting with small steps

I must admit that I do now constantly obsess to all my friends and family about nutrition not that I’m an expert or anything but the difference that my body feels from being correctly fueled is mind blowing.

I so want to inspire all of you to make these same changes in your lifes, small steps have been my secret and being realistic and patient are key points.

One thing my son has said to me all through this is,  ‘How long did it take to put the fat on and become unfit ?’
and I then think to myself….
‘Why yes years!!!’
so obviously he replies
‘You have to be patient

what took years to happened, will also take time to put right……’

One small change at a time….

Just as this beautiful butterfly was once a caterpillar, so can we also manifest and change our life’s!

We all want change really if we’re totally honest, unless you want to stand still because change means moving forward, it means improving and checking who we are, the hard part is achieving the change and making it a habit, a lifestyle…..

Whether it be a habit of food, exercise, or thought of mind I find the best way is to just make one small change at a time and practice that for a few weeks so that it becomes habit forming before introducing another change and so hence then not getting too over whelmed or worst still failing with the change, giving up!!

This amazing picture shows the change that hasn’t happened overnight, the seasons take time just as any change in your lifestyle or mind takes time.

• Always visualise your goal in your mind. • Be realistic.
• Be patient.
• Be kind to yourself still though.
• Be determined.
• Be organised.
• Always be mindful.
• Expect failure but try again, don’t give up.
• Keep positive, combat the negative.

These are some of my methods, simple yet they are really helpful, the most important being in my opinion is realistic and mindful always. The true power of the mind is really all you ever need. It’s like a muscle keep practising and it will become stronger…..

Not forgetting the very important gut feeling, the heart.
Without your heart in anything you’ll never achieve a result. So don’t start trying to change if really you don’t want it……

Start tomorrow, make that decision whatever it is that you are unhappy with in your life, remember you are the only one who has the power to change it.

If you have any stories of how you have changed your life please comment and share with me, I’d love to hear them….

How to control the negative!

Skin Deep ~ Mandy Moran

” Alex Kemp Lomomograph” from flickr

Everyday I encounter negative vibes we all do and sometimes it can actually be down to us, for contributing to them, but understanding the negative is all part of combating and controlling it…

I’m extremely grateful and excited too of reaching over a 1000 views on my newy almost 6 week old blog, maybe not a huge milestone for some but for me encouraging and giving me the motivation to keep going not to mention I’m absolutely loving it…
Also other exciting developments, I’ll keep you posted…..
So cast your mind back to my first post, only a short introduction but its base lying in everything fundamental that my blog is about, from back in early December 2014 titled ~

What we don’t realise! ~

– and this will set the scene for my explanation of…

A problem shared is a problem halved….

This is a old term, one most of us probably heard our mothers use.
Think back to when you were a child, sharing everything with your best friend was second nature.
So why when we become adults do we often find it extremely difficult to talk about our problems and emotions.
Society today isn’t as kind and understanding as days gone by, really because neighbourhoods have changed, lifestyles are no longer as easy in the way that mother’s stayed at home and cooked and nurtured their family, quite the same way perhaps as our parents did.
With those old times friendships were forged and people looked out for each other. Community and the feeling of belonging and with this came security and the good life hence leading to a kindness and less judging society….

We could learn a lot from where we have cometh…..

In today’s society, fast paced, technology based is there ever time to share a problem?

Problems of today’s world!

We see on the increase stress related illness,
• People struggling with large work loads.
• Worries about making ends meet.
• Juggling careers and family life.
• Long hours of work.
• Inability to express feelings due to fear of ridicule.

I remember in my geography lessons many years ago the forecast of the 21st century having more rest and play, less working hours per week.
Can’t say this has happened, can you?
Not in these days of austerity and hardship…..

Finding that special friend you can trust….

I think also you can count on one hand true friends, friends that take us for who we are regardless of our circumstance and status.

True friends don’t judge or compare, they support each other through good and bad.

So baring in mind that fact of very few true friends, its even harder to share our problems and feel then halved from that fundamental simple principle of off loading and getting a second hand perspective. Even just having someone to listen and care regardless of making things better, things always seem halved after telling and sharing with a friend…

So remember there are always good people who care, people we value and are grateful too.
Share those problems, lift the pressure and see the difference……

The link below is an article and video  based on research proving that problems shared reduces stress. How amazing. >>>>>>

Do lets start living with all the ingredients of wisdom and knowledge and then the good life will appear, because you are special………

The importance of taking time out!

Today I have spent a wonderful day at a spa, relaxing, catching up with a close friend and generally clearing my mind and enjoying some much needed time out from the hectic routine that’s my life.
Below is the link to the spa in Sherwood Forest >>>>>

I am incredibly lucky I have two fantastic children and a life that’s full of family and friends but actually taking a day for myself I do find somewhat hard.
I find it difficult and have in the past considered myself selfish but really it is so important to value yourself and have that realisation that occasionally it is necessary to have some me time….

It helps recharge, rejuvenate and readjust all making actually for a better clearer mind, more efficient and calmer you….
Now who wouldn’t buy into that…

We all play so many roles, I sometimes think I’m an actress,
we are parents, possibly grandparents, lovers, partners, spouses, daughters, sons siblings, friends, work colleagues, volunteers, writers, the list is endless.

There has to be a little time to be just yourself, down time, clearing the mind, if not I think we could all just burn out….

Importance of me time!

Burning out is perhaps a metaphor but very real with more people having breakdowns, suffering with depression and stress related mental health issues are on the increase.
The importance of valuing ourself has never been as important as now, more women are having children and then returning to their careers.
Adding these modern day pressures it can only lead to stress related illness.
So take heed now and consider these simple rules….
Prevention is always preferable to cure.

My list!!!!

• Give yourself at least 20 minutes everyday, sitting clearing your mind, a coffee, a quiet place, reflection.
This simple exercise will make such a difference.

• If you can awake first and get that first ten minutes alone with a cup of tea or squeezed lemon and warm water, then time to think about the day ahead, it will set you in the right direction.

• Allowing some time away once in a while, doing something you enjoy, in the company of someone you like.

• Not feeling guilty and remembering you have to be ok, fit and well, physically and mentally, so enabling you therefore to look after other’s, to be the best you can,and be successful and fair.

• learning and having the ability to say no if it isn’t convenient…..

In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness.
— Mohandas K. Gandhi

This is a simple exercise and straightforward and achievable, so please do go practice and see your energy levels grown, your mind become clearer and an all round inner peace materialise sooner…..

You are special and do deserve time for yourself……

Bad news…….

Are any of us ever ready to receive bad news?
The news of a friend………
Someone we admire, respect,
The shock is immense!!

Disbelieving of the unknown,
Fearing for their immortality,
Realisation its the dreaded unspeakable…….
Heavy heart and welling emotion!

Questioning our existence,
Why oh why oh why!….
No…. really no!!!
This world is unmerciful in its choice….

Strength will prevail here on in,
Dark days will engulf……
Fight this my friend we are with you,
For Cancer will be beaten in the end!!!

I pray for all those fighting the battle against Cancer.

How to ease the pain….

His pain and and sorrow are now clear,
Helping ease the anguish is sincere,
Impossible to pull from his dark place.
Did this situation arrive in haste….

Long years of hidden emotion,
Taking away his joy,
Wanting to reach out in love,
That isn’t on his receipt…..

Understanding any form of depression is paramount………

Waves of energy….

Photograph by ‘ Robert Hughes’ Flickr

To feel the waves of energies power,
Having a sensation of positive and opposing…
The negative holding us to ransom
If we allow its control to infect….

The waves we must embrace,
Energy’s force of perfect,
Feeling like a warmth caress,
Wrapping its core of exquisite wonderfulness around all it encounters,
Cleansing the soul of negative….

Build a barrier made from thought,
Combat the neutral with feelings of love,
Compassion will swim through the waves of ego,
Whence once was fear and qualms,
Is now countless joys of success…

A story of inspiration….. #Sam

Thinking about getting ready for a sports dinner for tonight, getting our glad rags on, long dresses, black tie the works.
Feeling excited, spending time with my family and friends, but there is a serious note behind all the joy and laughter.

Just 18 months ago, a friend, a very inspirational, beautiful young man the same age as my son lost his battle with a brain tumour, that he’d been fighting for near on five years.
His strength, his determination was unbelievable, he taught everyone who knew him many lessons…..
He was just 16 years of age but what he achieved in that time was unquestionable…
His parents are the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure to know, I’m proud and honoured to be their friends.
They have shown only courage in the face of such adversity.

Tonight is a fund raising event for the Sam white legacy and memorial
Link below to the website please visit >>>>>>

His parents have continued with fund raising without question and are helping with research and financially supporting other young people and their families………

This song is a tribute to Sam he will be in my heart forever and tonight when I’m laughing, dancing, drinking he’ll be never far from all our thoughts.

Proud – Heather Small, M People:

He had a smile of gold, he is a legend in our town here in the UK….
So please let’s help other young people to fight teenage cancers, let’s support his legacy because that was his wish for fundraising to carry-on…..

Thanks to everyone for reading this post.
