How self reflection can help all of us in 2017!

Well its coming up to that time of the year again, resolutions at the ready everyone….

I absolutely love New Year resolutions, however they are only worth while if we can try to keep to them for at least longer than a few days!!!

My son has a saying for the January gym goers, probably better I didn’t repeat it!!!

                     Reflection……

It doesn’t have to be exercise, it can be anything that helps shape you and your future.
Self reflection is a fantastic tool to help with a number of things, its perhaps something we do too little, probably because we are afraid of facing things…….

Let’s first just think about “Reflection” it can be produced from light, sound and water waves.
Its a wondrush, astonishing, fascinating form of Physics.

Nature itself produces beautiful examples, the light and water droplet reflect the flowers with extradinary results.
Other magnificent reflections with a wave reflector the mirror, and water waves, each one leaving us in utter disbelief of their beauty…….

     Self reflection has positive results!

Self reflection has to be done with ~

1. Knowing what you are reflecting on :-
i.e ~ to change a habit or lifestyle
     ~ to help change a relationship.

2. Being honest to yourself why you want to change…….

3. Find somewhere quiet, be alone and maybe put on some calming music to help you relax and think more clearly.

4. Write down your thoughts, read them however painful. Clearing the mind by written word, I find incredibly powerful. We are all different though remember, but give it a try!

5. Now you have reflected on what you want to change and honestly….

6. Its time to write down aims, with a time scale for each.
That way you can refer to them and don’t get too hung up if you are a little behind time. As long as you don’t lie to yourself……

The kind of transformation that self reflection can produce is worth a try, I’d say.
Our thoughts and feelings playing their roles again, thoughts positive, results feeling amazing……
Always remember each and everyone of us is special!

So now with all these tools let’s go and think about what resolutions we want to try this New Year.

How eating healthy and regular exercise can change your life!!

Just 15 months ago I decided to join the gym and really my reasons were mixed but never ever did I expect the amazing outcome that has now become a reality and a lifestyle, which has changed my life forever for the better….

Starting with small steps

I must admit that I do now constantly obsess to all my friends and family about nutrition not that I’m an expert or anything but the difference that my body feels from being correctly fueled is mind blowing.

I so want to inspire all of you to make these same changes in your lifes, small steps have been my secret and being realistic and patient are key points.

One thing my son has said to me all through this is,  ‘How long did it take to put the fat on and become unfit ?’
and I then think to myself….
‘Why yes years!!!’
so obviously he replies
‘You have to be patient

what took years to happened, will also take time to put right……’

One small change at a time….

We all want change really if we’re totally honest, unless you want to stand still because change means moving forward, it means improving and checking who we are, the hard part is achieving the change and making it a habit, a lifestyle…..

Whether it be a habit of food, exercise, or thought of mind I find the best way is to just make one small change at a time and practice that for a few weeks so that it becomes habit forming before introducing another change and so hence then not getting too over whelmed or worst still failing with the change, giving up!!

This amazing picture shows the change that hasn’t happened overnight, the seasons take time just as any change in your lifestyle or mind takes time.

• Always visualise your goal in your mind. • Be realistic.
• Be patient.
• Be kind to yourself still though.
• Be determined.
• Be organised.
• Always be mindful.
• Expect failure but try again, don’t give up.
• Keep positive, combat the negative.

These are some of my methods, simple yet they are really helpful, the most important being in my opinion is realistic and mindful always. The true power of the mind is really all you ever need. It’s like a muscle keep practising and it will become stronger…..

Not forgetting the very important gut feeling, the heart.
Without your heart in anything you’ll never achieve a result. So don’t start trying to change if really you don’t want it……

Start tomorrow, make that decision whatever it is that you are unhappy with in your life, remember you are the only one who has the power to change it.

How to deal the pack can get troublesome,

You are responsible for your own happiness!

This can be a hard concept to swallow, a difficult one to accept but either way its completely true and the sooner you realise this the easier and happier your life will become…

Taking responsibility!

 
Thinking about everyday situations and simple things that disappoint us for example ~
• we are having a picnic and it rains.
• We miss the train to work!

These are annoying but if we start with the small things and condition our minds to take responsibility and realise that it’s our own responses in adversity that determine how we feel and not blaming others, then more complex issues when faced with them will eventually be able to be dealt with and won’t eat into our happiness.

Thinking of extremes like Gandhi and Jesus who over came problems and remained positive is a fantastic example but for you to get to that level takes practice of thoughts over feelings….

You don’t have to be religious to have in faith in the universe….

Try to think of training the mind just as you would train a muscle it becomes stronger with practice.

Happiness is from within!

Finding inner peace and realisation will take time,
surrendering your thoughts and letting go of anger and believing and trusting that things can become better with your own strength of mind will result in your own happiness growing tenfold.

We are all hung up on thinking if we had ~~~
• More money
• The perfect partner
• A bigger house
• Thinner

The list goes on but really these things wouldn’t fix you, only patch it up for a while.
Real happiness is acceptance of what life throws at you good or bad and controlling your mindset accordingly to take responsibly personally and dealing with it without portioning the blame.

We do all see situations differently and remembering that you are the only person responsible for your thoughts is paramount, you are responsible for not letting negative life experiences to steal your joy…….

So let’s try it, let’s embrace happiness from within.
We have the power to create our own destiny and be happy doing it!

Real strength comes from hardship!

Looking at this picture I honestly don’t think any of us can imagine true hardship of this magnitude.
We all complain from time to time but we are incredibly fortunate in comparison!

I believe a bit of hardship is actually good for you through, it gives you a hunger to better yourself and a need and drive for success.

Spoiling our children!

We all do it from time to time its natural for a parent to strive to ensure their offspring are comfortable, happy and to give them a better start in life than they had themselves.
Are we doing the right thing though are we ensuring they have the right tools to succeed or just simply spoiling them literally?

 
In today’s modern society its all to easy to take our lifestyles for granted but some people do suffer a harder deal than others.
Educating our children that we have to work hard to provide money to achieve nice things and experience travel etc isn’t a bad thing rather than just handing them everything on a plate…. 

These are just a few examples of those coming from humble beginnings to achieve greatness, ‘ Harry Houdini, Charlie Chaplin, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Jay-z …….

Well let’s all be grateful for whatever we may have, remembering real wealth is always priceless
However if you do truly want success follow your dreams and expect pit falls because that’s what makes for success experiencing the lows before the highs…..

Five reasons to be thankful!

Today was beautiful,sunny almost Spring like, the days are getting longer, the long awaited warmer days are soon to arrive.
I have my favourite flowers out in the garden “snowdrops” always a sure sign Springs only around the corner….

There are possibly a few random people who love the Winter but I can honestly say I long for March and the changing of the clocks here in the UK, meaning lighter nights and mornings…
Its a true fact that people do suffer with SAD ~

Seasonal affective (or mood) disorder (SAD) is a type of depression with a seasonal pattern, occurring at the same time each year, most commonly in winter.

So really its understandable why Winter isn’t many peoples choice of seasons.

We do through despite many struggles or problems in our life’s still have many reasons to be thankful…

Today’s post though is about things we perhaps take for granted and don’t really appreciate.
We are so in ore of today’s technology I sometimes think we forget all the wonderful things discovered many years before that we now take as the norm…..

Think back only 150 years and the people of England were contracting and even dying from diseases related to unclean water. We turn on the tap in the western world and clean drinkable water appears.
So to start my five thankful things I nominate

1. Clean drinking water on tap.

2. Having a warm comfortable home.

Again 100 years ago poor people lived in slums filled with disease and misery, we today need to be thankful….

3. Electricity enabling for an easier life…

We forget until a power cut occurs how reliant on electricity we really are….

4. Our prized jewel, the car.

Again think how slow life would be paced if we still used horse and carts.

5. Last but no means least, the love of your children and close family and friends. Totally priceless and most definitely priceless.

Ten tips to help with confidence!

“Confidence is silent, insecurities are loud”

I most definitely love wearing heels, for me they are almost like my uniform.
Having worked in the fashion industry for almost 30 years, I now pretty much have mastered what I like to wear and how to make myself feel confident.

Confidence is easy once you know how to fool everyone even if inside you are feeling nervous, like in an important interview or first date….

It comes from our thoughts and those very thoughts affect how we feel….
It’s the thought’s though that can be affected by outside energies and factors.
So let’s try to find ways to stop our thoughts being infected by outside exposure and to keep feeling self assured…..

I have always loved fashion because it’s a great way to express your mood. And I’m definitely a shoe lover. The right pair of shoes can change the feel of an outfit, and even change how a woman feels about herself. A woman can wear confidence on her feet with a high stiletto, or slip into weekend comfort with a soft ballet flat.

Ten tips for being more confident in any situation….

1. Eye contact.
When meeting someone for the first time always have eye contact, don’t stare into their eyes but on first introduction do look into them briefly and this will give you an air of confidence.
when conversing always nod and keep eye contact without this the other person will feel you aren’t interested or listening.

2. Body postures.
Incredibly important, think of someone walking with head downcast,shoulders slumped immediately anyone will think you are shy and withdrawn.
Whereas if you walk tall, eyes straight ahead, not only do you obviously look so much better, you will also have the benefit of actually seeing people and having eye contact with them.

3. Handshake.
Make any handshake firm never limp and unmeaning. My father has always emphasised the importance of a good handshake. Again don’t forget that eye contact, remember its the window to everything…

4. You are not alone.
Remembering you are not the only one feeling nervous or insecure. We always judge ourselves against others and this will again straight away lead us to lose confidence. So always bare in mind others around you are never as confident as their appear.

5. Wearing confidence.
What we wear speaks volumes about our confidence, but more importantly being comfortable in your own skin must come first before any type of outfit can enhance it.
So do wear things that make you feel good but love what you are more. ..

6. Make others like you..
This isn’t something everyone has conquered, but charisma works wonders. Once everyone likes you genuinely for who you are your self esteem will rise and more confidence will follow. Complimenting others and helping without reward is kindness and there is no better tool that showing random acts of kindness to boast your own confidence….

7. Exercise leading to confidence.
Not always easy to keep motivated with exercise but its dividend’s will definitely pay out. Getting in shape will instantly enhance your confidence. Go for it….

8. Wording.
Avoid the phrases ” I think” or ” I believe”. Use  a purely positive tongue, “I can” or “I will”
People will believe you if you say thinks with confidence and sound like you know what you are doing.

9. Confidence vs knowledge.
I have always told my children that being confident is just as important if not more so than having yards of knowledge. For example a withdrawn, shy person will not get the job despite whatever qualification’s they may have.
Knowledge also though on the other hand can give you confidence so really these go hand in hand….

10. Touch.
Don’t be afraid to gently touch someone, the power of our energy is immense and this small gesture in itself will shout confidence and empower you to be more confident in the future…..

Remember thoughts over feelings and so get out there and strut your stuff, you are beautiful and special, we all are.
Lets embrace the life we have……
